We Are Catholic - World Youth Day 2011

I thought I was finished with posting videos from World Youth Day, but I found one more that is just too good not to post.

This is an excellent video from a young Catholic blogger who attended World Youth Day in Madrid. The theme of the video is the great unity that exists among Catholics the world over.

If you like this video, the creator of the video has several more videos from his trip to World Youth Day on his blog.

EWTN's Life on the Rock at World Youth Day 2011 - Again

Following up from my previous post, here is last week's episode of Life on the Rock, which again features coverage of World Youth Day in Madrid.

I apologize if anyone is getting tired of all the World Youth Day posts over the past week and a half, especially now that the event has been over for a week. All I can say is that I found a large number of good videos to post, and so I decided to post them. :-)

But I am almost finished now. Look for one more video post after this, followed by a summary post with links, and then I'll move on to other topics besides World Youth Day.

World Youth Day Video: Curtis Martin speaks to young people at the Love and Life Center

This is a very good speech by Curtis Martin to a gathering of English-speaking young people attending the recent World Youth Day in Madrid:

As with the previous World Youth Day videos I have posted from Salt & Light TV that are hosted by Livestream, you may see advertisements in this video unless you are using a web browser with ad blocking software installed.

Rome Reports presents a nice video montage of images from this year's World Youth Day:

Pope Benedict XVI Announces Rio de Janeiro as the Location for World Youth Day 2013

World Youth Day Video: Faith and Entertainment, and How to Pray

This rather long video covers two separate groups of talks. The first topic is "Faith and Entertainment," and features Fr. Robert Barron, actors Matt Marsden and Clarence Gilyard, and others. The second topic is "How to Pray," and features several speakers including Fr. Thomas Rosica.

By the way, this video and a couple of the World Youth Day videos that I posted late last week are from the Love and Life Center in Madrid, which is "a home for English-speaking pilgrims" at World Youth Day. You can read more about the Love and Life Center on their website or in this article from Catholic World Report. You can also find other videos that I posted last week from the Love and Life Center at the following links:

World Youth Day Video: Theology of the Body
World Youth Day Video: Freedom of Religion and Other Topics

And the complete library of these World Youth Day videos from Salt and Light TV can be found here.

Also, as I stated when I posted some of the previous World Youth Day videos, there may be advertisements in this video, which I can't necessarily guarantee are non-offensive. If you use Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus, you probably won't see the ads.

Pope Benedict Celebrates Closing Mass at World Youth Day

Earlier today, Pope Benedict celebrated the closing Mass for World Youth Day in Madrid:

Pope Benedict XVI Proclaims a New Doctor of the Church

At World Youth Day in Madrid, Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed St. Juan de Avila as the 34th doctor of the church. According to Catholic News Agency's report on this proclamation, "the title of 'Doctor of the Church' is bestowed upon a saint whose writings are deemed to be of universal importance to the Church. The Pope must also declare the individual to be of 'eminent learning' and 'great sanctity.'" Rome Reports has a video report:

World Youth Day Video: Theology of the Body

Here is a talk from this year's World Youth Day, by Jason Evert and several other presenters, on the Theology of the Body:

For links to more World Youth Day videos and information, please see my earlier post.

Please note that you probably will see one or more advertisements in this video, though you can block them if you use Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus. The ads are controlled by Livestream, and hopefully are not objectionable, though different people may see different ads, so I can't necessarily vouch for every ad.

World Youth Day Video: Freedom of Religion and Other Topics

Several speakers are featured in this video from this year's World Youth Day in Madrid, including Archbishop Charles Chaput, Carl Anderson (supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus), Fr. Thomas Rosica, Helen Alvaré, and a filmmaker whose name I missed. The topics include religion and the media, freedom of religion, secularism, and legal issues around family and sexuality.

For links to more World Youth Day videos and information, please see my earlier post. And in case any advertisements appear in this video, I will repeat the following disclaimer:

The advertisements preceding each WYD TV video do not reflect the views of WYD Central or of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. This video service is provided free of charge by Livestream, and the advertising is controlled by Google. Ads displayed by Google vary according to the viewer, the account from which the videos are viewed and country of viewer. If you would like to keep Salt and Light videos commercial-free, learn how you can support our ministry.

UPDATE: I watched this video in another browser without ad-blocking software, and indeed it does have advertisements (a short commercial at the beginning, and a pop-up ad that displays at the bottom of the video, but that you can close). The ones I saw were not objectionable, but different people may see different ads. If you want to block the ads, you can try using Mozilla Firefox with Adblock Plus; that has worked for me.

Live streaming video from World Youth Day 2011

Salt and Light TV presents the following live streaming video from World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, which runs from August 18 (today) to August 21.

You can also find the live World Youth Day video feed and archived World Youth Day videos here:

http://www.livestream.com/wydcentral

(Scroll down to find the archived videos; they are toward the bottom of the page.)

However, for these archived videos and for the live video stream that I embedded above, perhaps I should include the following disclaimer that I found here:

The advertisements preceding each WYD TV video do not reflect the views of WYD Central or of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. This video service is provided free of charge by Livestream, and the advertising is controlled by Google. Ads displayed by Google vary according to the viewer, the account from which the videos are viewed and country of viewer. If you would like to keep Salt and Light videos commercial-free, learn how you can support our ministry.

I haven't seen any advertisements on the live video or on the archived videos, but that may be because I use ad-blocking software in my web browser. It does sometimes block even video ads.

Another good site for World Youth Day videos and information is World Youth Day Central.

Over the next few days, and especially next week, I will try to post some videos of specific talks from World Youth Day.

In this video from the Veritas Forum, Peter Kreeft discusses the rationality of belief in God. Here is the Veritas Forum's description of the video:

Thomas Peters (the American Papist) interviews Archbishop Charles Chaput

The following videos show an interview that Thomas Peters (the American Papist) conducted in 2008 with Archbishop Charles Chaput, then the Archbishop of Denver, and now the Archbishop-designate of Philadelphia. The discussion centers around topics covered in Archbishop Chaput's book Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life.

Fr. John Muir explains the new translation of the Mass

This is a great explanatory video about the new translation of the Mass.

This video is targeted to the parents of teens, though really it should be helpful and informative for all English-speaking Catholics. There are also two companion videos targeted specifically to teens, which you can see at the following links:

Archbishop Chaput speaks on church and state, and other topics

With the recent news that Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver has been appointed as the new archbishop of Philadelphia, I would like to post a couple of videos featuring the good archbishop.

In this video, Archbishop Chaput gives a speech at Houston Baptist University, and then participates in a conversation and answers questions. Several topics are covered, with the main topic of his speech being Christianity in public life -- i.e., the proper relationship of church and state, or faith and politics.

Sorry for the long dry spell!

My apologies for letting two months pass without a new post here. There have been a number of reasons for my inactivity, one of which is that it simply has been a very busy summer. Please stay tuned for some new posts coming soon.
