Pope Benedict - I Will Survive

This is a fun video that I remember first seeing posted on the American Papist blog a few years ago. It has some great pictures of Pope Benedict:

By the way, those really are Pope Benedict's hands playing the piano at the beginning of the video, though he's not playing "I Will Survive." :-) You can find the original video of him playing piano here.

Fr. Robert Barron on the "YouTube Heresies"

Fr. Robert Barron has posted many videos about the Catholic faith on YouTube, as part of his Word on Fire ministry. And as would be expected, he receives a wide variety of viewer comments on those videos, including some very negative ones. In the two-part video series below, he examines four of the most common fallacies that he finds in those negative comments:

Here is another video from Jimmy Akin about the church fathers and early church history:

No videos this week

I am taking off this week from posting videos, because of Holy Week. I wish everyone a blessed week, and a happy Easter. Look for new posts starting next Monday or Tuesday.

Fr. Barron on God, the tsunami, and the problem of evil

Perhaps it would have been more relevant to post this a few weeks ago, shortly after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, but this is still a good discussion of the problem of evil in the world:

Reverse Thinking

This is a very clever video, about the radically changed worldview that comes from converting from atheism to Christianity:

Thanks to the Kresta in the Afternoon blog for the video.

Fr. Barron: What Are the Practices of Lent?

I probably should have posted this video earlier in Lent, but better late than never. In this video, Fr. Barron talks about the major practices of Lent -- prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. He also discusses the ashes which are given on Ash Wednesday.

"The God Delusion" Debate

A few years ago, a group called Fixed Point Foundation hosted an entertaining and lively debate between Richard Dawkins and John Lennox about the existence of God. Here is a description of the debate from Fixed Point Foundation's web site:

In Birmingham, Alabama, Professor Richard Dawkins and his Oxford University colleague Professor John Lennox engaged in a lively debate over what is arguably the most critical question of our time: the existence of God. The debate centered on Dawkins' views as expressed in his best-seller, The God Delusion, and their validity over and against the Christian faith. Both presenters agreed to the format and topics of discussion.

I couldn't find an embeddable video of the debate, but you can view the entire debate at the following link:

The God Delusion Debate (video)

After you watch the debate, be sure to go to the following link to hear a follow-up discussion between Dawkins and Lennox, which is perhaps more enlightening and more edifying than the debate itself:

Dawkins and Lennox Follow-up Discussion (audio)

I should also note that I don't know whether Dr. Lennox is a Catholic or a Protestant. However, I thought that everything he said was in line with the Catholic faith (both in the debate and in the follow-up discussion).

UPDATE: The original video link is working again, so I have re-edited the link to point to the correct URL. As of this moment, both of the above links are working.

Catholicism 101

Have you ever thought about taking a college-level class on the Catholic faith? Maybe not, but what if you could watch the class for free on your computer?

Well it seems that the folks at the St. Mary's Catholic Center at Texas A&M University have posted online videos of two non-credit courses that they offer, Catholicism 101 and Catholicism 102. I don't know if many people would take the time to go through all of these videos, but here is the first one:

I won't post the rest of them on the blog, but you can find them here.

SoulWow!

This video was produced by the dioceses of Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island as a humorous way to promote the sacrament of confession during Lent. It is a parody of the annoying "ShamWow" commercial that was all over late night TV a year or two ago, and it probably won't make sense if you haven't seen the original commercial. But if you have seen the "ShamWow" commercial, then this is pretty funny:
